Hawaii is often called paradise, a place where the sun paints the sky in golds and pinks, where the ocean’s waves sing a steady lullaby, and where the scent of plumeria drifts through the air. But paradise isn’t always what it seems. Beneath the beauty, there are stories of struggle, quiet suffering, and survival. Life here is layered with both breathtaking joy and heartbreaking hardship, where laughter and pain coexist, and where the strength to heal is tested every day.

The Wise Marie: Paradise Edition invites you into this complex world. It’s a story about resilience, courage, and the way we carry our pasts while striving for something better. Through the eyes of Ace and other unforgettable characters, you’ll witness the raw truth of hardship moments that can break you, moments that can save you, and moments where the smallest act of hope becomes a lifeline. This is a world where people work tirelessly just to stay afloat, where families are tested, and where generational wounds quietly shape lives. The book also celebrates the heartbeat of Hawaiian culture, the sacred connection to the land (ʻāina), the rhythm of the ocean, the warmth of community, and the humility and humor woven into everyday life. It honors tradition, family, and the moments of magic that appear in even the smallest gestures: a shared meal, a song carried on the wind, a story told under the stars.

These stories are drawn from real life, the people I’ve met, the struggles I’ve witnessed, and the lessons I’ve carried with me. Some chapters are fiction; all are true in spirit. Wise Marie is about survival, yes, but it’s also about courage, choice, and transformation. It’s about rising after a fall, about finding purpose in the chaos, and about believing in your own strength even when the world doubts you.

This is a story of hope, not the kind that comes easily, but the kind that is fought for, earned, and carried forward. It is for anyone who has felt lost, beaten down, or invisible. It is for anyone who knows the weight of life’s storms but still reaches for the light.

Through The Wise Marie, you’ll see that even in the most unlikely places, even in a paradise full of both beauty and struggle, healing, redemption, and courage are possible. And perhaps, you’ll see a part of yourself in these pages, too.  THE WISE MARIE BY NATASHA BRUNE

Wise Marie is more than a novel—it is a generational reckoning. Told through the lens of Marie, a woman shaped by trauma, intuition, and tenacity, the story follows her journey

from childhood into her fifties. Inspired by true events, the book weaves a tapestry of survival with glimpses of glamor, betrayal, and hard-won wisdom. This 'Paradise Edition'

honors Hawaii as a spiritual anchor in Marie's healing. Now being adapted for film and Broadway, Wise Marie is not just a book—it is a movement.

L’Heure: Looking back, how do you think your childhood shaped the storyteller you are today?

Natasha: Growing up in Hawaii, primarily on my own, provided me with a quiet space to dream and explore my imagination. My father, known as "Bud," worked in the film and photography industry, and I often accompanied him to various sets, not as a star, but as the daughter of a crew member who came along later in life. Meanwhile, I would hear stories from friends about my biological father, referred to as "Uncle," who had been in the military and whose identity remained a secret for 48 years. This narrative is explored further in volume two, “Paradise of Darkness,” the sequel to the critically acclaimed bestseller, “The Wise Marie, Paradise Edition.” The stark contrasts between these two worlds taught me to observe deeply and feel intensely, shaping my writing to reflect both the wonder of childhood and the grit of lived experience.
